Since this blog is mostly stories about our patients, and many of these patients seem to have misplaced some of their class, how can I not mention the classy Armando Galarraga?
He just smiled and walked back to the mound without any fuss, even though it was a pretty obvious out:
The next day, Galarraga hands Joyce the lineup card:
The Detroit News interview:
I don’t really follow baseball, but there is a debate about whether MLB should overrule a very contrite Jim Joyce and officially declare Galarraga’s near-perfect game a perfect game. If you really think about it, they shouldn’t.
There have only been 20 perfect games ever, according to Wikipedia. Can you name all of those pitchers?
Besides, I didn’t even know that Roy Halladay pitched a perfect game just this past Saturday.
If I were Armando Galarraga, I’d be perfectly (oops, I’m not into puns) happy to be the only pitcher in history to have been denied a perfect game by a bad call.
