How do you think you got that zipper?

Dear patients,

If you have a big friggin’ zipper on your chest, also known as a history of coronary bypass, your chest discomfort is most likely NOT indigestion. Don’t wait 12 hours until you’re about to go into VF, also known as “dropping dead,” to call us.

Denial is a Class III intervention. (It’s not an effective treatment.)

Seriously.

Sincerely,

Medic

  1. I think the AHA doesn’t word it quite that strongly. They note patients have a long history of denial, and some people might not be ready to change. It also may be expensive. They’ve made it Class IIb until everyone is ready to make the change 🙂
