Welcome to the sad, bleak real world

Code 3 for the unknown.

It’s a women’s shelter for people with substance abuse issues. Usually accompanied by psychiatric history.

Cops are there before us with a woman sitting at a table, handcuffed.

“They say she was banging her head on the table a bunch of times.”

“I want to DIE!”

Sure enough, she bangs it a few more times, perhaps just for effect. Only someone had the foresight to place a large pillow on the table in front of her after the last little cephalic episode.

A staff member: “I don’t know what she’s doing. I’ve never seen anyone do anything like that.”

“Really… you work at a drug/psych shelter and you’ve never seen anyone upset or throw a tantrum before…”
