We’re waiting in the triage area with 2 other crews and their patients. We are third in line with a drunk. He’s out.
The first crew has a crackhead. She’s out too.
The second crew has a woman in her 30s with back pain times 3 days. She’s playing with her phone, not in any apparent distress. She sees our patient and asks, “What’s wrong with him?”
“People come to the ER for that?”
“Yes. He’s passed out. Can’t just leave him in the street.”
Let me try to understand this – you, with your 3-day-old back pain, are suggesting that the drunk is here for bullshit?
I’ll make this clear – ALL THREE OF YOU ARE HERE FOR BULLSHIT!
And technically, both the drunk and the crackhead – passed out – objectively have higher acuity levels than you.
