You're not the only one who gets riled up with this subject...

I received the following comment from a family member the other day, "We're verbally revoking [the patient's] DNR."

And the facility MD (NOT her PCP and the signee of the DNR) stated, "Yeah, I'm ok with that."

This after the facility had apparently ALREADY preformed about four minutes of CPR from the time of the 911 call during our trip to the facility. I asked "May I see the DNR?", and quickly put the intact form in along with the other transfer paperwork I was taking.

Hmmmm... it still seems to be a valid DNR to me... although thankfully, I didn't have to test it out.

We have to drive like assHats and have 'accidents' because since we no longer have starving packs of wolves, sabertooth tigers and the other henchmen of Darwin, we need a new way to thin the herd of the lesser able to survive members.

I agree that every crash is attributable to some break in the uniform rules of the road, whether intentional (speeding, DUI, following too closely) or unintentional (vehicle malfunction causing a failure to maintain lane, distracted driver failing to notice a light change, etc). I have been taught and now teach my students (LE Instructor) to call such incidents "crashes" or "collisions" because, while very few are indeed total accidents, (unforeseeable circumstances, such as a tire blow out) the majority are caused by some combination of factors that could easily have been avoided. Human error will always be a factor, and I do not by any means advocate the position that a citation should be issued at every collision, but I do believe that people are far too lax about their RESPONSIBILITY as the director of several thousand foot pounds of energy.

Yep, been there, had that one. It's right up there alongside "Can I have a smoke before we go?" and "But I just made coffee. Can I not drink it before we leave?"

Her book Stiff is one of the funniest, most educational/disgusting things I've ever read. Did you know Trendelenburg, who invented the famous Trendelenburg position, did so in order to move people's flab out of the way? Yes, he was a urologist.

Also the LeFort fracture categories. LeFort's work involved tying corpses to chairs and then swinging bricks at their faces and noting the results.
